12-1-06Dave Navarro
Complains About Supernova Promotion
The Panic Channel guitarist Dave Navarro checked in with fans on his blog at 6767.com, not happy about the promotions for Rock Star Supernova's just-released debut album. "The Supernova record is out today. Does ANYONE know about that," Navarro asked. "I just went to iTunes and noticed that there isn't even one comment up. Now, I have been complaining about the state of the music industry for a long time... About how major record labels don't stand behind their bands anymore but this is ridiculous. This is a new band that is full of platinum selling artists and the final winning singer from a high rated, network talent search summer series that cost millions to produce. CBS and MBP basically put together one of the most expensive ramp ups in album release history and so far, I haven't seen a single add or alert about this album. Now, the band will be fine. They are going out on a huge tour and will gain plenty of momentum I am sure. My point is, if this is the way Epic is going to treat these guys, how do we expect any major to really get behind a band that is new, fresh and totally unknown?" Rock Star Supernova, moved less than 17,000 copies in its debut week, landing them the No. 101 position on the Billboard Top 200 Albums. 9-21-06Darkane Guitarist Issues Update Darkane
guitarist Christofer Malmström has posted the following message
on his official web site: 7-20-06 Concert Sparks Brawl Between Band Members Following a "devastatingly killer" performance in front of a packed audience at Detroit's Club 2500, members of Michigan's "satanic beer metal cult" SUMMON certainly lived up to their intense reputation as a fistfight broke out between founder and bassist Necromodeus and frontman Xaphan. The bloody brawl which ensued left Xaphan "permanently scarred" and the popular underground outfit in search of a new singer/guitarist. Contrary to rumors stemming from a post on Xaphan's official MySpace page, SUMMON has not disbanded and are actively seeking a replacement for the former frontman. In an official statement, band leader Necromodeus stated, "We're not going to quit because he did…again. We're looking for a replacement singer." Most recently, the popular underground group issued "Fallen" via Austria's Napalm Records. Featuring appropriately wicked cover art from legendary artist Joe Petagno (MOTÖRHEAD, RITUAL CARNAGE) and allegedly being the first extreme metal album to be recorded in Dolby 5.1 sound, the record scored big with critics and fans alike, garnering rave reviews in the press and attracting a rabid audience to European concerts in support of GOD DETHRONED and U.S. appearances alike. Currently, the group is preparing material for their next album and looking toward touring in October with Century Media recording artists INCANTATION 4-25-06XM Liquid Metal Is Back On Satellite Radio On April 17th at midnight EDT, XM Liquid Metal resumed broadcasting on channel 42. Maiden & Dickinson Vs.
Sharron Osbourne According to KNAC.com, attendees at last nights' Los Angeles-area edition of Ozzfest at the Hyundai Pavillion at Glen Helen Regional Park were treated to an on-stage spat between Iron Maiden and Sharon Osbourne. During Iron Maiden's set there were problems clearly visible to the fans. According to a witness, "at least 3 dozen eggs" were thrown at the band during their first one or two songs. Bruce Dickinson was very vocal and used several expletives directed at the person(s) in the audience who were able to "sneak" the eggs into the event. He made a comment that the egg throwing and inconsideration was done by an Ozzy Osbourne fan and "not A Black Sabbath fan." Dickinson said the band would continue playing after drummer Nikko McBrain cleaned up his drum kit. After the egging there were three power outages, each lasting 3-5 minutes. One song, where the power was cut half-way through, was finished in its entirety. The other two songs were not.

5-14-05Former Metal Church Vocalist David Wayne Dies "On behalf of David Wayne's Metal Church, we would like to express our deepest sorrow in the passing of our metal brother, David Wayne. This is not only a loss for us as a band and his family, but also millions of metalheads throughout the world. David died due to complications from injuries he sustained in a head-on automobile accident several months ago. "David Wayne was the patented scratchy vocals of several METAL CHURCH albums and was in the process of returning to the metal scene with his new band lineup. His goal was to return to the sounds of METAL CHURCH's albums released in 1984 and 1986. We will always remember the burning words and vocals in 'Gods of Wrath', 'Watch the Children Pray', and 'Start the Fire'. David and his current band had just completed several new songs and were ready to head to the recording studio after their European tour dates this summer. "Along with David's family and friends, we would ask that cards, letters, and flowers be sent to the below address. Additionally, donations are being accepted to help David's family with funeral expenses. David Wayne's Memorial Fund

5-5-06System of A Down To Go On Hiatus posted Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 10:39:34 PM by deathbringer. MTV.com is reporting that System of a Down will go on hiatus after completing the Ozzfest 2006 tour. "We're not breaking up," Malakian insisted. "If that was the case, we wouldn't be doing this Ozzfest, because we're a little nervous" about trying to fill Ozzy Osbourne's shoes. Ozzy will be headlining just 10 of this year's Ozzfest dates, with System topping the bill on Ozzy's off days. "We're going to take a very long break after Ozzfest and do our own things," he added. "We've done System for over 10 years, and I think it's healthy for us to get away from it for a while and come back to it later on. So, this is probably going to be ... well, it's not a farewell tour, but it's going to be a little while before we go out again." Malakian said he couldn't guess just how long System's hiatus will be, other than to say a few years. System of a Down have generally held recording sessions every three years since their self-titled debut in 1998, although the release of the material has been staggered: 2001's Toxicity was followed in 2002 by the outtakes collection Steal This Album!, and in 2005 the band issued the two halves of its double album, Hypnotize/ Mezmerize, five months apart. This fall, Malakian said he'll start work on his next project, Scars on Broadway, a band he's still assembling. He's also in talks to score a feature film, but hasn't inked a deal just yet. And the rest of the band has other interests, too. Tankian runs his own record label, Serjical Strike, and Odadjian has been talking with members of the Wu-Tang Clan about working together on a project. "I have a few things lined up that I want to do," Malakian explained. "For me, personally, I've written all the System records from day one, so it's kind of healthy for me to go off and do a few other things and then come back to it, as it is for the rest of the band. Some people would call it a breakup, but we don't really call it that. You know, even U2 took a little time off, and then they came back with a new sound. We're not trying to follow anyone — that's just an example of a band that kind of took a little break and then came back. Read the full article at MTV.com. 3-23-06Police Battle Punks The Associated Press has issued the following report: Rioting broke out Saturday night (March 4) at British punk band concert in San Bernardino, California, injuring several people and destroying two police cars, officials said. Some in the crowd of about 1,500 at the "British Invasion 2K6" show pelted police with rocks and bottles, forcing the officers to withdraw, police spokesman Sgt. Rick Lindsey said. Two concertgoers were hospitalized with serious injuries, and two officers suffered minor injuries, he said. The rioting began when police responded to a report of a stabbing at the National Orange Show Events Center concert. When officers arrived, the crowd became agitated and several fights broke out, forcing the officers to back off, Lindsey said. After backup arrived, the officers went in again and extracted the stabbing victim and another person who was beaten, Lindsey said. But the violent crowd forced officers to withdraw again. With additional backup, including Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and Fontana police, officers lined up in phalanx formation to clear the streets and they fired pepper balls and tear gas to move the crowd, Lindsey said. As the crowd dispersed they destroyed two police cars and vandalized area businesses, Lindsey said. A trash bin was set on fire (photo) and storefront windows were smashed. The all-day concert was scheduled to feature 22 punk rock bands, including G.B.H. and THE ADICTS

The 27-year-old musician's body was discovered Tuesday (April 19) in a sleeping bunk on the band's tour bus in North Charleston, where the group was set to play at the Plex club. Police found a pill bottle containing "numerous amounts of prescription medicine" in Ottoson's bed. Members of AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE told police they last saw Ottoson alive at around 4 a.m. on the morning of April 18, just as the band was departing Jessup, Maryland, for North Charleston. Ottoson had consumed "a large amount of alcohol at a bar" in Jessup that evening, according to police documents. Police were called to the scene at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening; by that time, Ottoson was dead. Bassist Chad Hanks (known to fans by his stage name, Mr. H.C. Banks III) and guitarist Karma Cheema told police that Ottoson was a "heavy sleeper, and it was not uncommon for him to sleep late before a concert." The report also claims police were told that Ottoson had been "consuming unknown prescription medications." 3-13-05System of a Down Gets Marijuana System of a Down rocker Shavo Odadjain is assured a constant supply of marijuana - because his doctor writes him prescriptions.Ever since the "Chop Suey!" bassist told his physician he experiences pains in his leg, he has received a never-ending supply of cannabis.Odadjian says, "I get it prescribed.
